Wooden Patio Furniture

Outdoor Chairs and Tables
Of course, all of our wooden garden furniture range is predominantly for outdoor use. That is not to say that it could not be used indoors! Once you have purchased your wooden furniture, you have a choice to make. Do you leave the wood as it is and let the elements "weather" the furniture or do you treat the furniture with oil or varnish to keep the weather out. Depending on your decision, you will control the look and colour of your new furniture. Much of the hardwood and softwood furniture will arrive already treated at the factory and you will not need to do anything for a few months. Teak garden furniture is often deliverd without having been pre-treated and you will have to decide whether or not to oil it before it goes in the garden. Pre-treated furniture will require oiling again approximately every six months, depending on location and useage. This will keep out the rain and harmful rays and will keep your furniture looking as good as new. Pre-treated furniture which is not oiled again will turn a "silver grey" colour after a couple of years as the weather takes effect. Wooden garden furniture which is delivered to you untreated will also go a "silver grey" colour, if it is not oiled, but the process will be quicker. Non treatment will not neccessarily shorten the life of the furniture and generally speaking, the more you pay, the longer it will last!
Hardwood Furniture Sets
The term "hardwood" can cover a multitude of different types of wood and these can range from English Oak to Far Eastern Yellow Balau. Hardwood basically means that the wood is more dense and heavy, making it more resistant to the external elements of the weather. It is generally rich in oil and this is why re-oiling will replace the natural oil that the weather has driven out. The vast majority of hardwood furniture sets in this country originate in the Far East - Indonesia, Vietnam and of course China, being some of the biggest producers. There is not much industry in the UK as wood is less common, but Oak is still available and you will find this still in more specialised stores. The Americans tend to be self sufficient and you would think that Canada, with its huge forestry resources, would be a major player. American Oak and Cedar are good materials for wooden furniture but we do not see much of it on our shores.
